BEGE MIG encoders are highly suitable for precise positioning in industrial automation systems. All BEGE MIG incremental and absolute encoders provide extremely accurate, high-resolution measurements. Even so, there are differences. The following describes the variations in more detail.
Incremental encoders
Incremental encoders generate information on position, angle and number of revolutions. This type of encoder does not specify an absolute position, instead it reports incremental changes in the position. Each time the encoder is turned on, it begins counting from zero, regardless of the current position of the shaft.
Incremental encoders are useful in applications requiring quick feedback on an immediate, accurate relative position. For example, incremental encoders supply information on direction and speed in unmanned conveyor systems.
Absolute encoder
Absolute encoders measure the rotation of a shaft through type-specific angular displacement. This type of encoder supplies unique positioning values from the moment the encoder is activated. The encoder will even translate movements during a power failure into accurate positional values when switched back on again.
Absolute encoders are used in applications such as logistics automation involving horizontal or vertical rotational movements, in palletizers for instance. Here the absolute encoders determine the precise position of the grippers.
